Matthew Kavanagh [Biography]

Matthew Kavanagh

Born in Nottingham in 1980, Matthew developed a passion for art as a young boy with his grandad Joseph. During his teens Matthew spent his free time and school time doodling in exercise books with biro pens.

When he left school he decided to pursue a career within the NHS and put his artwork to one side for a number of years to pursue his career in Pharmacy within the Oncology, Haematology and Pharmacy Trials.

Whilst working he always found time to be creative by producing Caricatures and charity fund raising events by using his artwork.

During 2021 and the COVID-19 lockdown, Matthew and his wife decided to move to Tavistock on the edge of Dartmoor due to some very unfortunate events to embark on showcasing his work as he has always kept it very private.

His favourite and most inspirational place is Dartmoor National Park, where he has honed in on his subject matter, style and techniques with pens. He sketches a lot and takes a multitude of photographs before getting to work on his final piece. The majority of his work is inspired by the wonder of nature, life and memories of amazing experiences in the South West.
