Charles Summers [Biography]

Charles Summers

Born in London in 1945. He lived in Montego Bay, Jamaica from 1954 - 1956. In 1956 he returned to England to attend Cornwall College and Continue his education but it wasn't until 1972 that he started painting seriously.

Charles Summers is a self-taught painter obsessed by the natural world; English landscapes, the rain forests of Asia and Central and South America and, more recently, the Sahara desert. he has been on expeditions to Malaysia, North Borneo, Java, Indonesia, Panama, Dominica, and Belize. His paintings can now be found in collections worldwide.

"In 2012, as a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, Charles was commissioned to make a Diamond Jubilee fan for Her Majesty The Queen."

Exhibited regularly at the Royal Horticultural Society, from which he received a number of awards, including two gold medals. In 1980 Charles produced the design for a Chelsea commemorative plate and in 2000 he painted a fan for the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. In 2007 he was asked to paint a fan for the Duchess of Cornwall.
