David Walters [Biography]

David Walters

David Walters has immersed himself into many different avenues of art and design over the years, as a way to satisfy his desire to create.

He began his artistic career working primarily with metals and wood. Creating furniture, sculptures and wall designs for family and friends, purely because he enjoyed the process of making something to occupy and beautify a specific space. He started resin art out of a sheer desire to break into, and experiment with colour. The gleam and mirror finish he encountered in his early works with resin and inks, led him to perfect his work with this media and the fluidity of his creations. With their haphazard cells and nebular clouds have since developed into the distinctive and unfathomable images we see today. His work is defined by colour, form and an intense blackness, allowing the viewer to see what they want. The unpredictable movement of resin on his boards allows David endless possibilities when it comes to creating aesthetically pleasing art works. His distinctive impressions of shape and form are tested by the volatility of the resin, and this is where the beauty lies. His pictures captivate the viewer and draw them into what could be described as perhaps a microscopic, scientific or interstellar world.

David has lived and worked in Plymouth his whole life. He currently works from home in a small studio, which he has converted specifically for his artistic pursuits. He started work as a copper-smith, 40 years ago at the age of 16 where he first realised his desire to work with metal. For the past 20 years however, he has served as a Police Officer with Devon and Cornwall Police. During these years David has been commissioned on many occasions to design and make bespoke furniture pieces which he has crafted to high specifications.

He has been an avid art collector for the last 25 years and has an appreciation of a variety of genres.
